When the Muskegon Risers left Michigan at noon on Saturday morning the temperature was a comfortable 70 degrees. When they kicked off against the Old Bhoys on Indianapolis’s Westside that evening it was a sticky 93. The conditions and turf led the referees to stop play twice for water breaks with the additional cramps in-between.

A new addition to the Old Bhoys revamped line-up was former Indy Eleven goalkeeper Christian Lomeli. However, the efforts of the Men in Red in the horrendous conditions fell short as the visitors snagged one goal in each half. The Risers opened their account in the 19th minute when an Old Bhoys turnover was controlled by Nicolas Likulia at the top of the eighteen. Likulia was able to beat three defenders and slide a low shot past Lomeli far post to put the visitors up 1-0.

As the second half opened and the Old Bhoys were controlling the pace, the Risers earned a free kick on the left side of the eighteen. Matheus Lima’s low bender was deflected in by Kevin Lacroix to make it 2-0 to the Risers in the 51st minute. It was still early and with the amount of subs the hosts made along with the long travel and short bench for the Risers the Old Bhoys were still in the match. However, the Risers were up to the occasions and came away with the 2-0 victory.

The USAi Old Bhoys will play their final home match of the 2018 UPSL season next Saturday at Cardinal Ritter High School against Ann Arbor FC at 5 p.m.
