Eleven close out spring season against Armada

After Indy’s 4-1 defeat at home against the Jacksonville Armada back on June 10th, the Eleven have taken no mercy on their opponents by collecting 10 points in the four matches since that embarrassing defeat. A line-up that has not seen any changes during their four game unbeaten streak has the Eleven sitting four points out of a final playoff spot heading into the final game of the spring season. Jacksonville is coming to Indy on short rest after a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night against Puerto Rico FC. This should boast the Eleven as odds on favorite to sink what has been a strong Armada side this year after they were forced to play a make-up game this week.

Play smart by playing through Smart– If there has been one player that has helped the Eleven get back to their winning ways and regain their mojo it’s Don Smart. Since coming back from injury and starting against NCFC at Carroll Stadium on June 17th, the Eleven have found a target player on the counter, have shown pace on and off the ball, and have diversified their attack with consistent crosses. Smart’s entrance back in the starting lineup has also given Marco Franco confidence to push forward and add his name to the stat sheet with 2 assists. Look for the Eleven to find and play off the energy Smart brings to the match against Jacksonville.

Force the Armada to chase early– It will be key for the Eleven to press and score early since the Armada are coming off a midweek game against Puerto Rico. It will start with Justin Braun and Eamon Zayed putting pressure on the back line and Ben Speas and Don Smart flying down the wings to burn the Armada tread down quickly.

Set the record straight against Jacksonville– Last time out the Eleven played well against Jacksonville until the wheels fell off in the 41st minute and the Armada went on to a 4-1 landslide. Since that game the Eleven have been a different side all together and need to set the record straight, showing the team the last four games is the real Indy Eleven.

Tim Hankinson has not changed the starting line-up since June 17th so it’s safe to say, barring some mysterious injuries, the Eleven will come out as such.

In three games as an NASL center referee, Alex Chilowicz has used his whistle for 62 fouls and has handed out 15 yellow cards.

The previous two seasons the Jacksonville Armada have played their home games at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, sharing it with the Jacksonville Suns. After 25 years of being called the Suns, the AA minor league baseball team changed their name to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. The Shrimp are still affiliated with the Miami Marlins.
