This week the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) has decided to add a third class for boys and girls soccer starting in the 2017-18 school year and will last through the 2018-19 year. The class division is based on enrollment from the Indiana Department of Education. Currently, there are 303 high schools that participate in boys soccer and 267 in girls soccer. It has not been determined how the addition of a third class will realign the state tournament this fall.

Only two schools; Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit and Guerin Catholic High School have been granted permission by the IHSAA to play up in Class 3A.
